The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (AUF) at the University of Rostock invites applications for
a

W2-Professorship in Applied Crop Genetics

at the earliest possible date (within budget considerations).

We are seeking a person with national and international research experience, fundamental knowledge and
methodological expertise in molecular biology and crop genetics as well as in its applications in molecular plant
breeding.

Tasks and Responsibilities
The professorship shall make use of and develop 

new biotechnological tools as genome editing 

functional gene analysis and genome modification 

molecular markers 

as well as plant biotechnology
and apply them in view of, e.g., biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, climate resilience as well as quality and
compounds of food and fodder crops.

The professorship needs to cover modules with the following contents in bachelor and masters courses: 

Biology of cultivated plants and plant genetics 

Classical and molecular plant breeding 

Agrobiotechnology and molecular biology in plant breeding

Requirements
The applicant should have a degree in agricultural sciences, biosciences or comparable fields with a focus on crop
genetics or plant breeding, have habilitated or be scientifically proven through habilitation-equivalent achievements.

She/he has extensive teaching experience and convinces with very good pedagogical skills. Experience in the field
of research and project-oriented teaching is desirable.

She/he is an internationally recognized researcher with relevant publications in the field of crop genetics, who is
going to be committed to running and future interdisciplinary research collaborations within the faculty and who
develops them efficiently with relevance to the future. A perfect framework exists due to the Interdisciplinary Faculty
of the University of Rostock with its various departments and the possibility for close collaborations with the Faculty
of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

Experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funding and leadership experience are required. Ideally, the
applicant has target-oriented networking and cooperation with national and international research institutions in the
field of crop genetics and breeding research.

We expect a strong commitment to the promotion of young researchers and doctoral training. Active participation
in academic self-administration at the faulty and university level is taken for granted.

Qualifications are as per § 58 of the Higher Education Act of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LHG M-V):
completed university studies, doctoral degree, post-doctoral thesis (“Habilitation”), teaching experience or
equivalent qualifications, usually earned within the context of junior professorship.

A special focus is placed on academic achievement and teaching qualifications as well as academic organization
and administration. For this reason candidates should describe previous teaching results, ideas regarding future
teaching (including didactic lesson planning) and their prior experience in academic and scientific management. In
addition, candidates are expected to have experience and interest in developing programs that can attract and
maintain external funding.

The professorship is to be filled according to § 61 LHG M-V as a position with civil servant status for life, or, if
applicable, for 5 years. It is also possible to fill the position as a regular state employee.
